Don’t Be Fooled – The Truth About LED Fly Killer Tubes

Guardian Avatar

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about Electric Fly Killers and whether everyone suddenly has to switch over to LED UV tubes. If your current pest control provider has been telling you it’s urgent to make the change, hang fire — it’s not quite the full story.

Let’s clear a few things up.

There’s a bit of a myth doing the rounds that standard fluorescent UV tubes (you know, the ones we’ve been using reliably for years) are no longer available. That’s simply not true. Yes, legislation is changing — but we’re talking years down the line. Current estimates suggest these changes won’t be enforced until at least 2030.

So, the idea that you need to rip out all your current fly killer units and invest in new LED versions right now? Absolute nonsense.

Now, don’t get us wrong — LED technology does have its advantages. It’s more energy-efficient over time and can save a few quid on your electric bill. But jumping the gun and replacing perfectly good equipment unnecessarily just creates waste. And in most cases, you don’t need to buy an entirely new unit — there are retrofit LED tubes available that work with the majority of existing fly killer units. No need to chuck the lot out.

Here at Guardian Pest Control, we’ve still got solid stocks of both standard and shatterproof UV tubes, so there’s absolutely no need to panic. If you do want to switch to LED, we’re happy to help with retrofit options that make sense for your setup — and your wallet.

Bottom line? If someone’s telling you to “act now” or face non-compliance — take it with a pinch of salt. The changes are coming, but there’s time yet. Plenty of it.
