The Beauties and Beasties Podcast

Guardian Avatar

In August 2024, Sean Mooney and Alex Wade were on a phone call discussing the merits of Ficam D an insecticide for wasp control and its withdrawal. During their conversation, Sean made a passing remark: “Why don’t we chat about this and record it on a Zoom call?” And with that, the first seeds of a podcast were planted.

The next challenge was choosing a name. Initially, Beauty and the Beast was suggested, but concerns over potential copyright issues led them to settle on Beauties & Beasties instead.

The early episodes were recorded via Zoom, but the format quickly proved problematic. Seeking an alternative, Sean and Alex decided to experiment with Facebook Live. Around this time, they reached out to Hugh Radford, an admin of the UK Pest Controllers Facebook page and co owner of Guardian Pest Control to assist with production, communication, finding guests & guest bookings. After several attempts with Facebook Live, they ultimately transitioned to dedicated podcast software.

What began as casual industry discussions soon evolved into guest appearances, featuring a diverse range of professionals from the pest management industry. The podcast quickly gained traction, attracting guests not just from the UK but from as far as Africa and the United States. By January of this year, the podcast had achieved its milestone goal of 1,000 followers & has become the leading Pest Control Podcast in the U.K.
